Poetry #2
The Garden of My Soul

I was adopted at the age of 4 months. I have now met both my birth parents and wrote this poem to my birthfather a while back.

FROM AN ADOPTED DAUGHTER TO HER BIRTH FATHER

A little bundle all wrapped up
Taken from his arms
Given to a family who loved her
And kept her away from all harm

But the father that no longer knows her
Cries each year on that day
When he first heard that cry of a baby
A sound in his heart that stays

Will she ever know the true story
He prays to God above
He tried his best to protect her
And keep her safe and full of love

Hes tried for years to find her
Putting ads in the papers in town
But he doesnt know what her name is
Or even if shes still around

He prays to heaven each night
To keep his little girl safe and warm
And hopes that one day soon
She will be back in his loving arms

I went to lunch with a very good friend and we talked about the diversity in the world and how it would be nice if everyone could be tolerant of the differences in each of us. This is where the idea for this poem came from.

TEACHING DIVERSITY AND TOLERANCE

We seek diversity, but live in a world of intolerance
We strive for patience, but live in a world of beating the clock
We want to love, but live in a world filled with hate
We need peace, but live in fear of war

We live with what we are taught
But if we teach those who are young
They will change the world

If we teach them diversity, they will be tolerant of all
If we teach them patience, they will live in time with the world
If we teach them love, they will not hate those who are different
If we teach them peace, they will not bring about war

It is said that a child shall lead them,
But children need a guiding hand
If we teach the young to change the world,
They will make it a better place for all
